One thing that I don't understand is the choice in music. Music is poetry in song form, so aren't the lyrics the most important part? People don't listen to the words like they should. Instead people are attracted to rap songs that swear just about every line. Or in many songs, the lyrics don't make sense, like in Mac Miller's Donald Trump. Granted, I do have that song on my iPod, but I still have no idea what being "on my Donald Trump sh!t" is. The only use I find in rap is that with the bass blasting and upbeat sound it provides good "pump-up" music that I can listen to before sporting events. I also believe that just because an artist sing songs about their love for partying, often with illegal substances, doesn't mean that they actually do. I think that that is a popular misconception that many people have.
Even though I am often judged for listening to "stupid" songs, I will be the one who understands the words that the song writer wrote. They wrote it down for a reason, and I believe that that reason is that they wanted someone to understand what they wrote. Alternative music is my favorite. Maybe I'm able to relate to it the best, but either way the lyrics actually make sense. Whether it's about heartbreak or finding love, I feel like I can relate to it, even if I haven't experienced those feelings yet. To end, I have some advice for you. The next time you listen to music, listen to the lyrics, and understand what the writer wants you to hear.
I totally agree, Melanie. Lyrics rock.
